PUBLIC HEALTH INSTITUTE & KAISER PERMANENTE
In 2021, I had the honor of leading a documentary team, on behalf of Kaiser Permanente and the Public Health Institute, across five cities to photograph and interview 43 frontline COVID-19 workers. We captured their powerful stories and experiences in facing the pandemic’s challenges. The project documented Tracing Health, a public health initiative launched in spring 2020 as a strategic partnership between cities, counties, and states to curb the spread of COVID-19. Developed from a theory by Marta Induni, the program's director, and supported by a generous grant from Kaiser Permanente, it was designed to protect lives—particularly those of essential workers on the front lines.
Through documenting Tracing Health, I helped capture a pivotal moment in the fight against COVID-19. My work not only honors these frontline workers but also serves as a visual record for shaping future public health strategies, providing valuable insights on responding to pandemics and building a more resilient, equitable workforce.
